Dr. João (John) Trein is a fellowship-trained ophthalmologist specializing in the medical and surgical treatment of retinal and vitreous diseases.
Originally from Brazil, Dr. Trein received his medical degree from Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul and completed his Ophthalmology residency and retina fellowship at the renowned University of São Paulo, where he also served as chief resident. He also holds a master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Cincinnati, with a concentration in drug development and clinical research. He remains actively engaged in international clinical trials to help bring new retinal treatments to patients worldwide.
Known for his compassionate care and clear communication, Dr. Trein is dedicated to empowering patients through education and shared decision-making. He is fluent in English, Portuguese, and Spanish, and takes pride in serving South Florida’s diverse community.
